ETTs, which are airway management devices in the form of flexible tubes, are inserted through the mouth or nose and pushed into the trachea. They permit safe mechanical ventilation, prevent aspiration complications and aid in giving anesthesia during surgeries. Laryngeal mask airways (LMAs) are supraglottic devices inserted into the pharynx to establish a tight seal around the larynx without traumatizing the trachea. They aid in critical positive pressure ventilation and are often considered the viable alternatives to ETT in an emergency and also as short-term airway management. A tracheostomy tube is a tube that is placed directly into the trachea through an opening that is surgically made in the neck. These tubes help long-term ventilation for patients with chronic breathing conditions or patients who require extended mechanical ventilation; they are less prone to discomfort and expulsion compared to ETTs. Partly, airway management devices are irreplaceable in the provision of oxygenation, prevention of airway obstruction, and respiratory support by critically ill or anesthetized patients,
